    Fun fact

Roughly 60% of all cannabis consumed in the United States is grown in three California counties:

      • Humboldt
      • Mendocino
      • Trinity

Cannabis is the largest cash crop in California with a valuation north of $11 billion.  In July 2019, a cannabis consumption license was issued to Lowell Herb Co, the first on-site eatery or public area in the United States where cannabis could be consumed legally.  They introduced THC-infused drinks and offered an array of cannabis-enhanced meals for the more discerning cannabis consumer.

Among the early farmers of cannabis in California hailed from Arab nations, Armenia, and Turkey.  As early as 1895, these immigrants were bringing centuries of tradition converting cannabis to hashish to the century-old United States.

California was also the launching point for the 100-year-old plus criminalization of cannabis.  Lawmakers were unhappy with the large population of Mexican immigrants pouring into the state and discovered that cannabis was a way to vilify them and legally make a case for deportation.  One of the first ever government led raids on a cannabis farm in the United States occurred in 1914 when authorities stormed a neighborhood in Sonoratown, a small but dense population of Mexican immigrants in Los Angeles, confiscating a wagon-load of cannabis.

The area has long been known as the Emerald Triangle.

Additionally, sales of cannabis in California are forecasted to top $6.59 billion by 2025!  While not the first state to sell recreational marijuana, California will always be a special place to Medusa Seed Bank because it is where we call home.
